AIMSS Fact Sheet
- The AIMSS has been founded by CAMS to promote improvements in the safety of motor sport, and the relationship between motor sport and public road safety in Australia.
- The AIMSS aims to encourage excellence across all levels of motor sport safety through research, education and industry liaison.
- AIMSS is modelled on the hugely successful FIA Institute, which in its first two years has already commissioned more than 50 safety-related projects.
- Road safety is a major issue in the community, and motor sport safety can contribute to road safety.
- AIMSS will oversee non-regulatory activities affecting motor sport safety in Australia, including the protection of participants, officials and the public.
- AIMSS will act as the representative body, in conjunction with CAMS and the FIA, to advise Federal and State Governments on best practice in motor sport safety.
- AIMSS will develop and implement innovative AIMSS research and educational programs on safety procedures, practices and technologies and raise funds for such programs.
- The AIMSS will be independently funded through professional and corporate membership.
- Funding for special projects will be raised from the relevant interested parties who may anticipate to benefit from the results of the projects.
- It is expected that all special projects will be self funded, although in some cases, the FIA Institute may be asked to contribute to funding as will Governments and other bodies working on safety in roads sport.
- AIMSS members will benefit from the Public and Products Liability insurance program set up through CAMS' appointed insurance brokers, OAMPs. Products liability has traditionally been a significant problem for providers to the motor sport industry and this initiative will provide members with cover that has not previously been available to them.
AIMSS members will be provided with a range of motor sport safety benefits which include access to:
- The FIA institute for Motot Sport Safety services and research, as well as CAMS services relevant to safety in motor sport.
- A "Centre of Excellence" for specific areas of expertise in motor sport safety procedures that have been developed in Australia.
- Technical advice in areas of motor sport safety and audits of work practices at discounted rates
- Professional opportunities for involvement on AIMSS committees, research projects and investigations where members have expertise or are significant stakeholder.
